WVSDEC Fall 2025 Meeting & Election 30-Day Notice

Meeting Notice: WVSDEC Fall Meeting – October 4, 2025

In accordance with the West Virginia Democratic Party Bylaws, 30-day notice is hereby given that the West Virginia State Democratic Executive Committee (WVSDEC) will meet:

Date: Saturday, October 4, 2025
Time: 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM
Location: Kanawha County Public Library, 123 Capitol Street, Charleston, WV 25301

This meeting is open to the public and will be livestreamed at wvdemocrats.com/youtube. Members unable to attend may submit a proxy form at wvdemocrats.com/proxy.

ELECTIONS NOTICE

The West Virginia State Democratic Executive Committee (WVSDEC) will conduct elections to fill the following vacancies, in this order:

Associate Chair – Female or Non-Binary

Requirements: Candidates must be a registered female or non-binary Democrat residing in West Virginia.
Duties: The Associate Chair is an officer of the WVSDEC with duties as outlined in the Party Bylaws. The Associate Chair also serves as a member of the WVSDEC, which meets at least four (4) times annually.
Term: This election will fill an unexpired term through June 30, 2026, or until a successor is elected, in accordance with Article Five, Section 8 of the WVDP Bylaws.

Vice Chair – 2nd Congressional District – Female or Non-Binary

Requirements: Candidates must be a registered female or non-binary Democrat residing in West Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District.
Duties: The Vice Chair (CD2) serves as a WVSDEC officer and member, with responsibilities set forth in the Party Bylaws, including meeting at least four (4) times annually.
Term: This election will fill an unexpired term through June 30, 2026, or until a successor is elected, in accordance with Article Five, Section 8 of the WVDP Bylaws.

Senate District 1 – Male or Non-Binary

Requirements: Candidates must be a registered male or non-binary Democrat residing in any county within State Senate District 1.
Duties: The SD1 male or non-binary representative will be a member of the WVSDEC, which meets at least four (4) times annually. Duties are provided for in the Party Bylaws.
Term: This election will fill an unexpired term through June 30, 2026, or until a successor is elected, in accordance with Article Five, Section 8 of the WVDP Bylaws. This seat is normally filled by voters on the Democratic primary ballot; this election fills the current vacancy until that time.

Senate District 2 – Male or Non-Binary

Requirements: Candidates must be a registered male or non-binary Democrat residing in a State Senate District 2 county, excluding Marshall County.
Duties: The SD2 male or non-binary representative will be a member of the WVSDEC, which meets at least four (4) times annually. Duties are provided for in the Party Bylaws.
Term: This election will fill an unexpired term through June 30, 2026, or until a successor is elected, in accordance with Article Five, Section 8 of the WVDP Bylaws. This seat is normally filled by voters on the Democratic primary ballot; this election fills the current vacancy until that time.

Senate District 3 – Female or Non-Binary

Requirements: Candidates must be a registered female or non-binary Democrat residing in State Senate District 3, excluding Wood County.
Duties: The SD3 female representative will be a member of the WVSDEC, which meets at least four (4) times annually. Duties are provided for in the Party Bylaws.
Term: This election will fill an unexpired term through June 30, 2026, or until a successor is elected, in accordance with Article Five, Section 8 of the WVDP Bylaws. This seat is normally filled by voters on the Democratic primary ballot; this election fills the current vacancy until that time.

Senate District 5 – Male or Non-Binary

Requirements: Candidates must be a registered male or non-binary Democrat residing in Wayne County.
Duties: The SD5 male or non-binary representative will be a member of the WVSDEC, which meets at least four (4) times annually. Duties are provided for in the Party Bylaws.
Term: This election will fill an unexpired term through June 30, 2026, or until a successor is elected, in accordance with Article Five, Section 8 of the WVDP Bylaws. This seat is normally filled by voters on the Democratic primary ballot; this election fills the current vacancy until that time.

Senate District 6 – Female or Non-Binary

Requirements: Candidates must be a registered female or non-binary Democrat residing in any State Senate District 6 county.
Duties: The SD6 female or non-binary representative will be a member of the WVSDEC, which meets at least four (4) times annually. Duties are provided for in the Party Bylaws.
Term: This election will fill an unexpired term through June 30, 2026, or until a successor is elected, in accordance with Article Five, Section 8 of the WVDP Bylaws. This seat is normally filled by voters on the Democratic primary ballot; this election fills the current vacancy until that time.

Senate District 6 – Male or Non-Binary

Requirements: Candidates must be a registered male or non-binary Democrat residing in any State Senate District 6 county, unless the SD6 female or non-binary representative elected is from Wayne, Mercer, or McDowell counties.
Duties: The SD6 male or non-binary representative will be a member of the WVSDEC, which meets at least four (4) times annually. Duties are provided for in the Party Bylaws.
Term: This election will fill an unexpired term through June 30, 2026, or until a successor is elected, in accordance with Article Five, Section 8 of the WVDP Bylaws. This seat is normally filled by voters on the Democratic primary ballot; this election fills the current vacancy until that time.

Senate District 7 – Female or Non-Binary

Requirements: Candidates must be a registered female or non-binary Democrat residing in any State Senate District 7 county.
Duties: The SD7 female or non-binary representative will be a member of the WVSDEC, which meets at least four (4) times annually. Duties are provided for in the Party Bylaws.
Term: This election will fill an unexpired term through June 30, 2026, or until a successor is elected, in accordance with Article Five, Section 8 of the WVDP Bylaws. This seat is normally filled by voters on the Democratic primary ballot; this election fills the current vacancy until that time.

Senate District 10 – Female or Non-Binary

Requirements: Candidates must be a registered female or non-binary Democrat residing in any State Senate District 10 county.
Duties: The SD10 female or non-binary representative will be a member of the WVSDEC, which meets at least four (4) times annually. Duties are provided for in the Party Bylaws.
Term: This election will fill an unexpired term through June 30, 2026, or until a successor is elected, in accordance with Article Five, Section 8 of the WVDP Bylaws. This seat is normally filled by voters on the Democratic primary ballot; this election fills the current vacancy until that time.

Senate District 10 – Male or Non-Binary

Requirements: Candidates must be a registered male or non-binary Democrat residing in any State Senate District 10 county, unless the SD10 female or non-binary vacancy is filled with a person from Fayette County.
Duties: The SD10 male or non-binary representative will be a member of the WVSDEC, which meets at least four (4) times annually. Duties are provided for in the Party Bylaws.
Term: This election will fill an unexpired term through June 30, 2026, or until a successor is elected, in accordance with Article Five, Section 8 of the WVDP Bylaws. This seat is normally filled by voters on the Democratic primary ballot; this election fills the current vacancy until that time.

Senate District 13 – Male or Non-Binary

Requirements: Candidates must be a registered male or non-binary Democrat residing in Monongalia County.
Duties: The SD13 male or non-binary representative will be a member of the WVSDEC, which meets at least four (4) times annually. Duties are provided for in the Party Bylaws.
Term: This election will fill an unexpired term through June 30, 2026, or until a successor is elected, in accordance with Article Five, Section 8 of the WVDP Bylaws. This seat is normally filled by voters on the Democratic primary ballot; this election fills the current vacancy until that time.

Nomination and Election Procedure

  • Nominations may be made by any WVSDEC member, including self-nominations.

  • Seconds are not required.

  • Nominator: 30 seconds to speak. Candidate: 1 minute to speak (subject to adjustment by the Chair).

  • All votes in elections with more than one candidate will be conducted by written ballot for members present in person. Remote participants and proxies may cast their votes using verbal roll call.
