WVDP Candidate Recruitment Quick Walk-Through

Step 1 – Identify (Aug–Sept 2025)

• Contact incumbents to confirm if they’re running.

• Identify at least one potential candidate for every open seat.

• Elected Officials recommend names and make introductions.

• Submit all names via wvdemocrats.com/recruit by Sept. 30.

Step 2 – Engage (Oct–Dec 2025)

• Follow up with all prospects and continue recruitment for open seats.

• Encourage pre-candidacy filings.

• Elected Officials make personal “ask” calls to top prospects.

• Pair prospects with mentors and share resources.

• Update recruitment workspace with interest/commitment status.

Step 3 – Commit (Jan 2026)

• Finalize candidate list for all targeted seats.

• Develop campaign launch plans.

• Assist with fundraising, volunteers, and voter contact.

• Update workspace with campaign progress.

Candidate Contact Flow

• Initial Ask – County DEC or Elected Official invites prospect to consider running.

• Follow-Up Meeting – Share expectations, resources, and next steps.

• Mentor Connection – Pair prospect with experienced Democrat or Elected Official.

• Decision Ask – WVSDEC Member, ED, County Chair, or Elected Official secures commitment.
