About Us
West Virginia Democratic Party Platform
Preamble
Over the past three and one-half years, George W. Bush and congressional Republicans have lined the pockets of wealthy special interests at the expense of working families -- as more than three million jobs disappeared and the federal deficit spiraled out of control. They have shortchanged our children's education, endangered the retirement security of America's seniors and damaged our nation's credibility abroad.
We have seen the effects of Bush's disastrous policies here in West Virginia. More than 14,700 jobs in West Virginia have been lost during the Bush tenure. More than 255,000 West Virginians do not have health insurance, up 10.6 percent since the beginning of the Bush administration. And while the richest 1 percent of West Virginia is getting tax breaks averaging $24,105, another 450,000 West Virginia taxpayers will receive less than $100 in 2004.
It is time to take our country back. This 2004 Platform represents the beliefs of the West Virginia Democratic Party. It was prepared by a dedicated committee in consultation with leaders, elected officials and ordinary West Virginians throughout the state. It is a platform for the people and by the people that charts how West Virginia will weather the national storm to move forward and bring prosperity to its people.
